MULTIVERSE
SAGA

Black Widow

Black Widow

Espionage action akin to Winter Soldier, right down to the unstoppable assassin Taskmaster. Pushes the PG-13 rating. Visceral action punctuated by the expected third act spectacle. Deepens the tragic character but suffers from a forced ending common with prequels.

Premiere: Jul 7, 2021

Loki 1

Loki Episode 1

Continues the trend of using the extended run time of the Disney Plus shows to examine what makes the central characters tick. The TVA push the boundaries of the MCU with a playful spin on hard sci-fi. Writer Waldron brings along the patented Rick and Morty wit.

Premiere: Jun 9, 2021

Loki 2

Loki Episode 2

The 1st act of the series is heavy on exposition clarifying the rules of the multiverse for MCU die hards, but is kept engaging with fun character moments between Loki and Mobius. Wilson's keyed down performance is well suited to play off the larger than life lead.

Premiere: Jun 16, 2021

Loki 3

Loki Episode 3

Breaks away from the brutalist offices of the TVA to the vibrant chaotic terrain of a doomed moon. A big budget bottle episode exploring Sylvie, the Loki Variant driving the plot. Beautiful cinematography and some great moments, but the weakest instalment so far.

Premiere: Jun 23, 2021

Loki 4

Loki Episode 4

The plot is kicked into high gear in the best episode yet. Builds to an epic climax that draws parallels to The Last Jedi, but with much better results. Sylvie is growing on me, but would benefit from a longer season with more time for character development.

Premiere: Jun 30, 2021

Loki 5

Loki Episode 5

The infinite potential of the MCU is finally unlocked in a variant heavy penultimate episode referencing everything from Spidey Super Stories to Batman '66. They even find time to channel Zelda Breath of the Wild in a vibrant and epic climax that leaves you gobsmacked.

Premiere: Jul 7, 2021

Loki 6

Loki Episode 6

The ominous finale closes out the MCU's most consistent Disney Plus series. An intriguing look behind the curtain of the TVA that delves into the secret history of the Marvel Multiverse, setting the buffet-table for the rest of Phase 4.

Premiere: Jul 14, 2021

Loki Season 1

Loki Season 1

Feels like the TVA are a meta commentary on crafting the "sacred" Infinity Saga with an authoritarian like iron fist. To save the day in Endgame the Avengers had to break all the rules. Now creators can do the same as the MCU expands into Phase 4 and beyond.

Finale: Jul 14, 2021

WandaVision 1

WandaVision Episode 1

Fully committed to the black and white sitcom schtick, right down to the wonderfully campy humor. Uses David Lynch's signature of hinting at the darkness under the surface of the American nuclear family facade. Willing to alienate fans to keep the MCU fresh.

Premiere: Jan 15, 2021

WandaVision 2

WandaVision Episode 2

Works on many levels: as an honest period recreation, a dark mystery box, a comic easter egg hunt and a character study of Wanda Maximoff. The viewer empathizes with Wanda, fighting back the slowly creeping MCU plot and cherishing the quaint moment in time.

Premiere: Jan 15, 2021

WandaVision 3

WandaVision Episode 3

Perfectly crafted to Olsen's strengths. Her infectiously charming performance grounds the series, allowing it to unabashedly take huge swings. Pulls off the paradox of endearingly rushing character work. You can feel the comfort slipping as the plot deepens.

Premiere: Jan 22, 2021

WandaVision 4

WandaVision Episode 4

It's like some kind of meta masterpiece as it rips you out of the warm rose tinted sitcom bubble into the cold bureaucratic world of MCU continuity at just the right moment. The hard sci-fi hand wave of tying CBR to TV static is next level writing.

Premiere: Jan 29, 2021

WandaVision 5

WandaVision Episode 5

The '80s kick the plot into high gear. It perfectly balances time in and out of the sitcom bubble, setting up a tragic collision course that may shatter our protagonists. The tension builds to a mind-blowing twist that will propel the MCU through Phase 4.

Premiere: Feb 5, 2021

WandaVision 6

WandaVision Episode 6

Halloween puts the cast in comic accurate costumes as the sitcom homage organically targets Malcom In The Middle. Pure bliss from start to end. A masterclass in meta storytelling. The audience is held captive, paralyzed between wanting and fearing the answers.

Premiere: Feb 12, 2021

WandaVision 7

WandaVision Episode 7

Act three begins by setting up the main players for the finale. Paris' Monica Rambeau takes charge of the plot, shining a light on the remaining mysteries. Big twists for fans of the MCU, but more wish fulfilment than surprising for those steeped in comics lore.

Premiere: Feb 19, 2021

WandaVision 8

WandaVision Episode 8

The penultimate episode explores Wanda's past grief, adding new context to her journey to the rich and complex comics character. Delves into the casts motivations. Masterfully ties her sparse MCU material together, creating one of their most compelling heroes.

Premiere: Feb 26, 2021

WandaVision 9

WandaVision Episode 9

They bring us home with a show stopping spectacle grounded by incredibly personal stakes. A beautiful contrast of science fiction and dark fantasy overload the senses, but after it's done the cathartic performances and characters stay with you.

Premiere: Mar 5, 2021

WandaVision Series

WandaVision The Complete Series

Daringly experimental, anchored by Elizabeth Olsen's powerful performance. Comes together like magic, using sitcom tropes to toy with expectations while fortifying the emotional origin of the Scarlet Witch leading into the Multiverse Of Madness.

Finale: Mar 5, 2021

Falcon 1

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 1

Opens with the biggest action sequence I've seen on TV. Captures the political thriller tone of The Winter Soldier. Sets up a ton of meaty material to chew on for the rest of the series by delving into the personal toll of living in the MCU.

Premiere: Mar 19, 2021

falcon 2

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 2

Introduces John Walker, government approved Captain America. Russel is great casting as he subtly plays on expectations. Thankfully doesn't shy away from race and the dark history of the mantle while still delivering on the buddy cop chemistry.

Premiere: Mar 26, 2021

Falcon 3

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 3

Brühl's Zemo brings a welcomed new dynamic to the cast as he brilliantly contrasts the leads to great comedic effect. I really appreciate how these series are diving deep into the lore to realign characters closer to their comics counterparts.

Premiere: Apr 2, 2021

Falcon 4

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 4

Takes the time to build up the motivations of John Walker and Flag Smasher to deliver the strongest episode yet. Suspenseful, thrilling action, great character work and strong symbolism. Thankfully, it's fully committed to the weighty subject matter.

Premiere: Apr 9, 2021

Falcon 5

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 5

Examines the weight of the Captain America mantle & brilliantly contrasts the meaning to both John Walker and Sam Wilson. Fully folds Isaiah Bradley into MCU history in a dark mirroring of Steve Rogers past. Plus, a mind-blowing deep-cut cameo!

Premiere: Apr 16, 2021

Falcon 6

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 6

The costume and FX are great, but the practical action doesn't reach the height of previous episodes. Wraps up the Flag Smasher and Power Broker plot a little too neatly. The big speech is well written and on brand but could have been pushed further.

Premiere: Apr 23, 2021

Falcom Series

Falcon and the Winter Soldier The Complete Series

Buddy-cop action meets political thriller. Plays to the strengths of actor chemistry and social commentary. Flag Smasher is more MacGuffen than villain. Baron Zemo, USAgent and Isaiah Bradley are adapted with care, fortifying the story.

Finale: Apr 23, 2021

Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

The MCU expands to incorporate Chinese mythology with an incredible team of Asian talent, delivering a powerful and refreshing take on the genre. Top tier fight choreography. Channels classics like Rumble in the Bronx and Crouching Tiger with a touch of Kung Fu Hustle.

Premiere: Sep 1, 2021

Eternals

Eternals

Director Chloé Zhao is unapologetic in adapting Jack Kirby's take on ancient astronaut theory. The first MCU film that's not trying to please everyone. As divisive and epic as the property demands. Breaks all the MCU rules, allowing the universe to grow and mature.

Premiere: Nov 3, 2021

Spider-Man No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home

Weaves generations of dangling threads into an emotional tapestry celebrating Spidey's rich history. Brimming with fan-service but has the Spider-Sense to use it for character moments. A creative plot avoids pitfalls as Jon Watts swings for the fences.

Premiere: Dec 15, 2021

Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Raimi uses every trick in the Necronomicon, punching through the barrier between Superhero Blockbuster and Indie Horror. Mind-blowing cameos and references for us Marvel Zombies and Evil Deadites. Hilarious, horrifying and heartbreaking.

Premiere: May 4, 2022

Hawkeye 1

Hawkeye Episode 1

Starts with a focus on introducing Hailee Steinfeld's pitch perfect Kate Bishop. The show largely hinges on her enthusiastic performance and the first episode fills me with confidence. Framing it all around Christmas is smart and feeds the playful street level tone.

Premiere: Nov 24, 2021

Hawkeye 2

Hawkeye Episode 2

The plot kicks off as the two leads finally meet. Target's a Die Hard meets Lethal Weapon vibe. I already love Kate Bishop and Pizza Dog. Renner's Hawkeye still has a long way to go to match his battered sad sack comic counterpart, but they've set the groundwork.

Premiere: Nov 24, 2021

Hawkeye 3

Hawkeye Episode 3

The head of the Tracksuit Mafia is revealed as Maya Lopez, a character with KING-SIZED comic implications. Masterfully builds emotional investment with short screen time and takes it home with a wonderful chase sequence. MCU Hawkeye has finally found his groove.

Premiere: Dec 1, 2021

Hawkeye 4

Hawkeye Episode 4

The holidays are skillfully used for a mostly peaceful & personal approach, allowing the stars time to sit and flex their skills in humanizing their roles. Renner has really grown into Clint late like Hemsworth's Thor and I'm hoping they both stay on long-term.

Premiere: Dec 8, 2021

Hawkeye 5

Hawkeye Episode 5

A late addition to the party shakes up the dynamic and reveals all the secrets. Maya Lopez and Kate Bishop shine in their new roles, but the Fraction comic elements are merely used as ornamentation. Ends with a peek under the wrapping of next weeks biggest gift.

Premiere: Dec 15, 2021

Hawkeye 6

Hawkeye Episode 6

Brings together an eclectic group for a fun finale propelled by the explosive chemistry of MCU newcomers Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova. Has plenty of surprises in the quiver, including D'Onofrio's Kingpin who's mostly just here to set up the Echo series.

Premiere: Dec 22, 2021

Hawkeye Series

Hawkeye The Complete Series

Seamlessly pulls Clint closer to the source material, but misses the mark on the lofty promise of Fraction/Aja meet Die Hard. It has a lot of fun doing its own thing, elevated by show stealing newcomers Kate Bishop, Swordsman and Echo. Bring on LA for another season!

Finale: Dec 22, 2021

Moon knight 1

Moon Knight Episode 1

A cold open sets up the intriguingly dark tone. Sharp editing and smart pacing offer an innovative portrayal of Dissociative Identity Disorder, building tension. Has big shoes to fill, dipping its toe in the themes of Marvel greats like Daredevil and Legion.

Premiere: Mar 30, 2022

Moon Knight 2

Moon Knight Episode 2

Shifts effortlessly between horror, action and comedy. Isaac shines in the role, which is the perfect showcase of his versatility. Not many could pull off the accent so lovably. Hoping to leave CG monsters behind for the more visceral action he's known for.

Premiere: Apr 6, 2022

Moon Knight 3

Moon Knight Episode 3

The Egypt setting breaks open the lore as yet another corner of the Marvel Universe is exhumed. Practical action is welcomed. Some editing continuity issues. Arthur Harrow is instantly wherever the plot needs him. The costume is a little clunky in action.

Premiere: Apr 13, 2022

Moon Knight 4

Moon Knight Episode 4

The impressively eclectic tone cycles through genres like moon phases. Even manages to hit the classic Spielberg sweet spot between adventure and horror. A shocking twist reinvigorates the plot and sense of mystery just in time for a hopefully very weird Act 3.

Premiere: Apr 20, 2022

Moon Knight 5

Moon Knight Episode 5

Cuts right to the heart of the fractured heroes tragic origins while keeping the viewer off balance leading into the finale. Oscar Isaac's multifaceted performance deepens with every episode. The portrayal of the Egyptian pantheon is clever and a lot of fun.

Premiere: Apr 27, 2022

Moon Knight 6

Moon Knight Episode 6

Goes BIG, biting off more than it can chew. Arthur Harrow really doesn't work once the fighting starts. Gets a little messy in the mad rush to wrap it all up, undercutting the psychological thriller and horror elements for a relatively safe but fun finale.

Premiere: May 4, 2022

Moon Knight Series

Moon Knight The Complete Series

Takes big swings, stripping away anything comparable to Batman and leaning into the supernatural. Oscar Isaac is phenomenal as he cycles through adorable, intimidating and heartbreaking. The care put into the Egyptology and D.I.D. pays off big time.

Finale: May 4, 2022

Wakanda Forever

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Facing insurmountable odds Ryan Coogler and the entire cast and crew some how outdo themselves. Like Japanese Kintsugi, they reforge the shattered pieces with gold, highlighting the beauty in resilience. Namor is equally awe inspiring and horrifying.

Premiere: Nov 9, 2022

Echo S1

Echo Season 1

Alaqua Cox fully embodies the role. The MCU always nails casting and representation. They somehow pull off the Netflix slow burn in a perfect five episode binge. This look at Kingpin as a deranged father-figure manages to deepen TV's best comic villain performance. It really needs a second season.

Premiere: Jan 9, 2024

Echo Ep 1

Echo Episode 1

A breakneck opener expanding on her origin glimpsed in Hawkeye, while delivering a gritty Daredevil action scene on par with the Netflix series before introducing the cast and setting. It comes together extremely well, but is a lot and might set expectations a little high.

Premiere: Jan 9, 2024

Echo Ep 2

Echo Episode 2

It lays groundwork establishing relationships while delivering two impressive set pieces: the ancestral flashback Stickball game presented with great care for historical accuracy and a thrilling train heist action sequence. The tone remains subdued, especially for the MCU.

Premiere: Jan 9, 2024

Echo Ep 3

Echo Episode 3

The opening flashbacks, reservation setting, primary use of ASL and deaf audio effect punctuating intense moments during action sequences really give the show a distinct vibe. I'm glad Devery Jacobs finally showed up. It could use more Dallas Goldtooth though.

Premiere: Jan 9, 2024

Echo Ep 4

Echo Episode 4

The opening between Kingpin and young Maya is brutal and heartbreaking. They've caught up to and surpassed Netflix in many ways. I wish Elektra got this kind of care. The relationship gives D'Onofrio a whole new angle to mine even more gold, revitalizing his return to the iconic role.

Premiere: Jan 9, 2024

Echo Ep 5

Echo Episode 5

A finale focused on the emotional arc of reconciling childhood trauma and rediscovering roots, not the typical boss battle. It's commendable, but I'd have welcomed some action on par with episode 1. The Black Knife Cartel are bland, but the setup for Kingpin is incredibly compelling.

Premiere: Jan 9, 2024

She-Hulk 1

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 1

Hits the ground running, immediately nailing the characterization. Brisk pacing organically flies through the exposition right to the good stuff. Facial animations can feel a little stiff compared to the films, but the CG looks great, especially in sun light.

Premiere: Aug 18, 2022

She-Hulk 2

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 2

Continues strong characterization with a chapter thats mostly set-up. Maslany has already proven she was the only choice and Roth's return as Abomination is long overdue. The CG is effective, but the stiff '80s blow out is jarring & breaks the sense of realism.

Premiere: Aug 25, 2022

She-Hulk 3

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 3

Goes off the rails and owns every minute. 4th wall breaks are getting too pervasive and you can tell when CG shots don't get as many passes by the tone of her green skin, but those minor complaints pale in comparison to the comic absurdity it's managing to pull off.

Premiere: Sep 1, 2022

She-Hulk 4

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 4

This is the proof of concept episode for me. The kinks seem to have been worked out as the CG is consistently impressive throughout. The foray into online dating is peak She-Hulk and the brief action offers a tantalizing taste of her exciting future in the MCU.

Premiere: Sep 8, 2022

She-Hulk 5

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 5

After all the build up Titania is feeling a bit like a missed opportunity. Jameela Jamil seems like she is being wasted, outshined by last weeks Madisynn. The costume quest B-plot really didn't work and felt like a waste of the shows already limited run time.

Premiere: Sep 15, 2022

She-Hulk 6

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 6

Another fun sitcom style detour. The right kind of filler for that procedural day in the life TV vibe. Patti Harrison as Lulu was hilarious as expected. Again Titania feels outshined by a spontaneous guest star. Shes the only part not working at this point.

Premiere: Sep 22, 2022

She-Hulk 7

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 7

Mixes it up by going full rom-com this week. Delves into her vulnerabilities and motivations without skimping on comedy. Porcupine maintains the impressive spontaneous guest star win streak, while anticipated villains Abomination & Titania tend to disappoint.

Premiere: Sep 29, 2022

She-Hulk 8

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 8

Brilliantly ties the season together for the perfect closing argument before the finale. Daredevil somehow exceeds expectations. They've mastered the weekly cameo by using it to further the plot & deepen character development. Gotta say, they really nailed it.

Premiere: Oct 6, 2022

She-Hulk 9

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 9

Purposely jumps the shark, betting the finale on a single gag. I'd have been onboard if everything around it wasn't so underwhelming. They could have had it both ways. It just unraveled & they gathered to pat themselves on the back and wave like the end of SNL.

Premiere: Oct 13, 2022

She-Hulk Series

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law The Complete Series

Unabashedly adapts the comics with full commitment to the absurdity and sexuality, gleefully dragging the MCU out of its comfort zone. A refreshingly fun sitcom lampooning culture warriors. Definitely not made for conservative men.

Finale: Oct 13, 2022

Ms Marvel 1

Ms. Marvel Episode 1

Elevates a familiar origin with a refreshing cast and incredibly strong cinematic style with an animated flair organically springing from Kamala's fan fic obsession. Captures the youthful energy of a comic-con fangirl, adding another authentic voice to the MCU.

Premiere: Jun 8, 2022

Ms Marvel 2

Ms. Marvel Episode 2

Maintains the quality and infectious energy while devoting the bulk of the time to developing the cast. Naturally addresses sociopolitical themes. Intrigues with hints of the origins of Kamala's controversial new powers before act two brings out the antagonists.

Premiere: Jun 15, 2022

Ms Marvel 3

Ms. Marvel Episode 3

Ditches the source material for a bold new origin tying to her culture. The result fits the MCU far better than the throwaway corporate mandated origin of her comic counterpart. Balances the exposition with some welcomed action with great choreography.

Premiere: Jun 22, 2022

Ms Marvel 4

Ms. Marvel Episode 4

A fast paced adventure through Pakistan uncovering generations of family history. Action focused, making great use of beautiful sets. While changes to the powers and lore are welcomed, the Clan Destine are beginning to underwhelm like many origin story villains.

Premiere: Jun 29, 2022

Ms Marvel 5

Ms. Marvel Episode 5

A unique spin on the penultimate flashback episode trope. The story boldly revolves around the historical Partition of India, thankfully without the both-sides centrism. The Clan Destine plot is uninspired but a last minute twist may salvage next weeks climax.

Premiere: Jul 6, 2022

Ms Marvel 6

Ms. Marvel Episode 6

World ending stakes are smartly scaled back for a more personal and light hearted finale. Unfortunately, pacing doesn't let some character moments breathe and the Damage Control showdown is a farce. Luckily, Vellani's endearing performance eased over most issues.

Premiere: Jun 13, 2022

Ms Marvel Series

Ms. Marvel The Complete Series

A wonderfully charming cast & great cultural representation dragged down by a messy plot and weak villains. I really could have done without wold ending stakes & time travel. Might have worked better as a movie in the vein of Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Finale: Jun 13, 2022

Thor Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder

Drunk with power from Ragnarok's success, Waititi leans into his strength of balancing childlike enthusiasm and soulful tragedy, but struggles under the weighty source material. The result is uneven with hilarious and beautiful highs and disappointing lows.

Premiere: Jul 6, 2022

Werewolf By Night

Werewolf By Night

Prolific composer and first time director Michael Giacchino nails the horror tone, delivering a shockingly gory homage to the Universal Monsters while unleashing Marvel's own Legion of Monsters on the MCU. You'll be dying for more Elsa Bloodstone and Man-Thing!

Premiere: Oct 7, 2022

Werewolf By Night In Color

Werewolf By Night In Color

They swapped out the Universal Monsters black and white for Dario Argento style lighting. The color isn't really doing the CG blood any favors. It works well enough, but I'm definitely going back to the original next Halloween. You just can't improve perfection.

Premiere: Oct 20, 2023

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Gunn pulls off a Christmas miracle with a heartwarming special focused on fun character moments. No villain or big 3rd act, just quality time spent with found family. Mantis shines in the spotlight while Drax re-gifts his usual schtick.

Premiere: Nov 25, 2022

Quantumania

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

A psychedelic sensory overload that makes Dr. Strange seem tame in comparison. Leans into the uncanny valley to sell the absurdity of the Quantum Realm. Kang the Conqueror steals every moment. It might be too much for some, but I'm here for it.

Premiere: Feb 15, 2023

Loki S2 E1

Loki Season 2, Episode 1

Takes off out the gate, maintaining the momentum and frantic energy of last season's explosive finale. A multiverse with Ke Huy Quan helps the exposition go down. If they pull it off this series could live up to the Time Runs Out build up to Hickman's Secret Wars.

Premiere: Oct 5, 2023

Loki S2 E2

Loki Season 2, Episode 2

Brad overstayed his welcome and the Mc Donalds product placement was tasteless, but the worst was the sanitary presentation of the multiversal stakes. I hate when these things gloss over collateral damage. Hopefully they can pick up the slack next week.

Premiere: Oct 12, 2023

Loki S2 E3

Loki Season 2, Episode 3

The anticipated arrival of Victor Timely is upended to subvert expectations. It's become a tiresome trope. At this point not subverting would be a subversion. Miss Minutes steals the show. Great FX and set design. Again I fear six episodes just isn't enough time.

Premiere: Oct 19, 2023

Loki S2 E3

Loki Season 2, Episode 4

Like the Temporal Loom itself, it weaves the disparate threads, skillfully building tension while organizing the cast for the climax. The MCU's plans for Kang remain inexplicable, but I'm beginning to masochistically enjoy the rollercoaster ride.

Premiere: Oct 26, 2023

Loki S2 E5

Loki Season 2, Episode 5

A detour colliding character arcs with endearing performances setting a path that will likely lead to a tragic end. I will say, the spaghettification is a little too close to the dusting FX. Secret Wars better have the colliding Earths visual instead.

Premiere: Nov 2, 2023

Loki S2 E6

Loki Season 2, Episode 6

A masterful cinematic space opera crescendo. Carves a path to Secret Wars through the Multiverse Saga's messy brush of timelines. A satisfying (possibly series) finale. Coming home to this right after The Marvels was truly an epic night for the MCU.

Premiere: Nov 9, 2023

Loki Season 2

Loki Season 2

The best MCU series. Masterful art direction. What a creative and unexpected way to set up Secret Wars. They somehow even pulled off the impossible task of wrapping up Kang in a relatively satisfying manner. This is essential viewing for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Premiere: Oct 5, 2023

GotG V3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Gunn goes out with a bang, nailing the sweet spot of breaking & simultaneously warming your heart. He poured his soul into giving Cosmic Marvel the spotlight it deserves. I'll forgive that AdamWarlock was an afterthought. The best MCU trilogy.

Premiere: May 5, 2023

SecretInvasion1

Secret Invasion Episode 1

A strong, ominous start. Has it's finger on the pulse tackling reptilian shapeshifter political conspiracies with an AI generated intro. While it works thematically as a repulsive imposter to art, it's a dangerous precedent set by a massive corporation.

Premiere: Jun 21, 2023

Secret Invasion Ep 2

Secret Invasion Episode 2

Now I'm sold on this new street level take. Captain Marvel's recontextualisation of the Skrull pays off big time in a geopolitical spy thriller. Grizzled, raw Nick Fury is Jackson's best work in the role and Cheadle's War Machine is the perfect counter.

Premiere: Jun 28, 2023

SecretInvasion Ep 3

Secret Invasion Episode 3

Another strong episode thanks to pacing that builds suspense and allows tense, nuanced performances. Jackson, Mendelsohn and Colman bring a palpable prestige and infectious chemistry. Again, the highlight is a brutal personal 1 on 1 argument with Nick Fury.

Premiere: Jul 5, 2023

Secret Invasion Ep 4

Secret Invasion Episode 4

The slow burn has hit boiling point, spilling into action. I've loved the build up but am a little worried with only 2 left. It seems they have cleverly inverted the function of the comic event and tie-ins. The Skrull makeup & design is just spectacular.

Premiere: Jul 12, 2023

Secret Invasion Ep 5

Secret Invasion Episode 5

6 episodes just isn't enough, especially with these runtimes. I hope the ending is left open and we have to go forward knowing the Skrull have infiltrated the Avengers. That was the best part of the comics. Colman's Sonya Falsworth is the MVP this time.

Premiere: Jul 19, 2023

Secret Invasion Ep 6

Secret Invasion Episode 6

A huge missed opportunity. The strength of the comic was setting up an intriguing status quo & letting readers marinate in paranoia, building tension exponentially over time. The rushed resolution is way too clean. This could have been Nick Fury's Logan.

Premiere: Jul 26, 2023

Secret Invasion Series

Secret Invasion The Complete Series

The first MCU series to fully disappoint me. How could they fumble with such a stacked cast of veterans? Rewatching this had me flashing back to pushing through Iron Fist. They could have saved it with a shocking finale that set up dramatic irony for the next Avengers film.

Premiere: Jun 21, 2023

The Marvels

The Marvels

Nia DaCosta doesn't waste any time. She naturally finds everyones voices and blasts straight to the action. It's like a random comic off the spinner rack mixed with an episode of classic Star Trek. The fleeting fun of the status quo after the origin and before the finale.

Premiere: Nov 10, 2023

Deadpool And Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine

It's everything the haters wanted from Multiverse Of Madness but could only work in a satirical comedy. The Fox X-Men movies finally get the respect/disrespect they always deserved. My only nitpick is a CG door. The fans will be serviced to completion.

Premiere: Jul 26, 2024

Agatha All Along Ep1

Agatha All Along Episode 1

The True Detective pastiche helps WandaVision fans feel at home, but I really hope we can tread new ground this season. I'm excited to have Aubrey Plaza back in a new Marvel role. She's the perfect choice to fill the Elizabeth Olsen sized hole in the show.

Premiere: Sep 18, 2024

Agatha All Along Ep2

Agatha All Along Episode 2

When she's finally free of the legwork, Kathryn Hahn falls back into the role like magic. Newcomer Joe Locke offers a unique energy with chemistry well crafted for Marvel ensembles. So far it outpaces WandaVision but just doesn't have as strong a hook.

Premiere: Sep 18, 2024

Agatha All Along Ep3

Agatha All Along Episode 3

The first trial of the Witches' Road underwhelms in act one's weakest chapter. Sasheer Zamata's Jennifer Kale has a long way to go before she earns a spot on the Midnight Sons with Man-Thing, but I'm rooting for her. Debra Jo Rupp's Mrs. Hart is a surprising scene stealer.

Premiere: Sep 25, 2024

Agatha All Along Ep 4

Agatha All Along Episode 4

Aubrey Plaza and Kathryn Hahn's foreboding chemistry steal the show. The musical element has been a little underwhelming, which is surprising with the Frozen songwriters and Patti LuPone on the cast. They really could have used a cliffhanger to end on.

Premiere: Oct 2, 2024

Agatha All Along Ep5

Agatha All Along Episode 5

I was excited for this one since I saw thar Evil Dead style poster and it's easily the best episode so far. The '80s slasher setting put me right into the holiday feeling. A few shocking twists really light a fire under the season, raising the stakes for the back half.

Premiere: Oct 9, 2024

Agatha All Along Ep6

Agatha All Along Episode 6

Usually these revelatory chapters are penultimate. Thankfully they broke the tradition to give up the goods early. Taking the spotlight comes natural for Joe Locke. The change in perspective and the guest appearance make this the funniest episode yet.

Premiere: Oct 16, 2024

Agatha All Along Ep7

Agatha All Along Episode 7

All the cards are shown leading into next weeks two-part finale. Patti LuPone's Lilia Calderu felt under-utilized until now, but they really managed to pull her arc together and wrapped it in a neat bow. The costumes were fun but I don't see how they pertained to the trial.

Premiere: Oct 23, 2024

Agatha All Along Ep8

Agatha All Along Episode 8

Agatha manages to catch up to WandaVision by the end of The Witches' Road. The feeling of dread is palpable. Aubrey Plaza is phenomenal. Her casting feels like an Infinity Gauntlet wish come true. It was the perfect Halloween treat punctuated with a devious trick.

Premiere: Oct 30, 2024

Agatha All Along Ep9

Agatha All Along Episode 9

It's an emotional epilogue that masterfully recontextualizes the entire series. They reverse the format of the last episodes of WandaVision, which really helps to differentiate the two series that share the theme of using magic as an escape from grief into fantasy.

Premiere: Oct 30, 2024

Agatha All Along Series

Agatha All Along The Complete Series

While WandaVision fans will feel at home, Agatha manages to carve her own path. It's a brimming cauldron of genres masterfully mixed by the Triple Goddess that is Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza and Joe Locke. Now to manifest a

Young Avengers show by Jac Schaeffer!
