With a snap of his fingers Thanos fulfills the purpose he was resurrected by Mistress Death for by killing half of the living beings in the entire 616 Marvel Universe. Thanos' unprecedented feat of mass murder for Death's acceptance is unrewarded, as she now deems herself unworthy of Thanos with his Infinity Gauntlet. Feeling spurned, Thanos creates a "perfect" female companion for himself, Terraxia, and invites the remaining universe to challenge him.

Thanos is confronted by what is left of Earth's heroes. Goaded by Mephisto, Thanos attempts to impress Mistress Death by limiting his infinite abilities, giving the heroes a fighting chance. He then proceeds to kill them all in brutal and inventive ways.

Thanos is then confronted by Galactus and the abstract cosmic entities of the Marvel Universe, but even they fall before his Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos begins to supplant Eternity, his consciousness swelling beyond the 3rd Dimension, when Nebula manages to snatch the Gauntlet from his distracted hand. As Thanos comes back to his senses, Nebula slips on the Infinity Gauntlet, usurping his control over all aspects of the universe.

In order to defeat Nebula who is mad with power from years of abuse, the resurrected remaining half of Earth's heroes team-up with Thanos. In the chaos of battle, the Gauntlet is flung from Nebula's arm and Adam Warlock gains control, ending the conflict.

In order to be an unbiased and just God, Adam Warlock expels himself of all good and evil, but this isn't enough for the approval of Eternity. The Living Tribunal decrees that the Infinity Gems cannot be used in unison. In an attempt to stop the Infinity Gems to falling under anyone else's control, Adam Warlock uses his omniscience to determine the best members to form The Infinity Watch.

Infinity Watch 1_edited.jpg

1992: Warlock & The Infinity Watch 2-7

Adam Warlock forms the Infinity Watch to safeguard the Infinity Gems. He keeps his Soul Gem, gives Gamora the Time Gem, Pip the Space Gem, Drax the Power Gem, Moondragon the Mind Gem and gives the Reality Gem to someone in secret. Due to suffering brain death at the hands of Moondragon in his past life, Drax's intelligence is greatly decreased in his current form leasing him to swallow his Power Gem. Warlock then declares that he requires solitude to come to terms with his loss of godhood and abandons the team who then go their separate ways.

Adam seeks out the guidance of his adopted father, The High Evolutionary, but finds that he was driven mad after witnessing the birth of a Celestial. The High Evolutionary is then attacked by soldiers known as Them, and in desperation Adam instinctively steals ones soul with his Gem and is overwhelmed by the new memories. Meanwhile, an armoured being called The Omega captures all known members of the The Infinity Watch one-by-one.

Through his victims memories, Adam learns that "Them" are actually people from the doomed Counter-Earth who were saved by The Omega and remade for the purpose of getting revenge on The High Evolutionary. Adam, using his Soul Gem, seeks the holder of the Reality Gem's guidance who gives him the information that the Watch are being held captive in a ship orbiting Earth.

After a long battle with The Omega's second in command, he is umasked and revealed to be Triax, an old foe from Counter-Earth. The Omega then reveals himself as The Man-Beast who has used the Infinity Gems to create an Infinity Thrall to get revenge on Adam Warlock and The High Evolutionary.

Warlock is greatly overpowered by the Infinity Thrall until he lures it to the engine room of the ship, tricking the mindless creature into attacking the power source, destroying the ship and disbanding the Infinity Thrall. The Man-Beast and Triax escape and the Infinity Watch are saved as the ship crashes to the Earth.

Adam Warlock awakens from a nightmare involving his evil half The Magus to find they have been marooned on Monster Island, ruled by The Mole Man. The Mole Man offers the Island as a base of operations for The Infinity Watch in return for their protection.

Suddenly, the holder of the Reality Gem is revealed to be Thanos who arrives with a dire warning.

When Adam Warlock had control of the Infinity Gauntlet he purged himself of all good and evil in order to remain an unbiased supreme being. Somehow, the evil of his soul splintered off and combined with the disembodied essence of The Magus from a dead timeline.

The newly resurrected Magus, determined to get revenge on Warlock and Thanos, collects five Cosmic Cubes in order to render Eternity catatonic and create doppelgängers of all the heroes of Earth, keeping them occupied.

Thanos notices the energy of the Cosmic Cubes and discovers Magus, deciding it best to warn Adam Warlock. The Infinity Watch and Galactus make a plan to awaken Eternity to petition The Living Tribunal to allow the Infinity Gems to be used in unison again in order to have the power to stop the Magus and his collection of Cosmic Cubes. Galactus takes Gamora to use as a scalpel to perform cosmic surgery on Eternity.

Earths heroes defeat the doppelgängers and form their own plan to have Quasar use The Ultimate Nullifier to erase both Magus and himself. Meanwhile Dr. Doom and Kang The Conquerer form an uneasy alliance in order to take the Cosmic Cubes as their own. Both groups set out, following the energy of the Cosmic Cubes to The Magus' domain.

The heroes encounter The Infinity Watch on their way and jump into battle when they see Thanos among them. In the confusion The Magus captures Adam Warlock with his complete but incompatible Infinity Gauntlet, retreating to his base.

The Magus and Warlock are then attacked by Kang and Dr. Doom. Doom betrays Kang and takes control of the Cosmic Cubes, demanding Magus' Gauntlet. Suddenly, thanks to Galactus and Gamora's work, The Living Tribunal decrees the Gems can be used in unison again and The Magus' Infinity Gauntlet regains its power. The Magus easily defeats Doom and Quasar equipped with The Ultimate Nullifier. Thanos is confronted by and defeats his doppelgänger, absorbing his essence and filling a void felt since he held The Infinity Gauntlet.

Thanos confronts The Magus and gives Adam Warlock an opportunity to grab hold on the Infinity Gauntlet. As Warlock and Magus both hold the Gauntlet, struggling for control, Adam releases the forces of a combined Eternity and Infinity. Because Thanos had swapped the Reality Gem with a fake, they are able to overpower The Magus long enough for Adam to steal his soul with his Soul Gem, rendering himself catatonic.

Later, it is revealed that the Cosmic Cubes were stolen by Adam Warlock's good, taken form as The Goddess. Eternity then declares that The Living Tribunal has given him the authority to decree that the Infinity Gems will never again be used in combination again, no matter the threat to the universe.

Gamora warns that her Time Gem has shown her a vision of Maxxam standing over Adam's defeated body, but her warnings are ignored.

Silver Surfer, still mourning the death of his beloved Shalla-Bal, is contacted by Adam Warlock with the message that Shalla-Bal is still alive. The Silver Surfer teams with The Infinity Watch to track her soul to the realm of Mephisto. The Silver Surfer offers his soul for hers, but Adam Warlock uses his Soul Gem to battle Mephisto within his hell dimension, an spect of his demonic soul. The Soul Gem's mastery over the soul proves to also have control over Mephisto's realm, leading to the release of Shalla-Bal's soul for The Infinity Watch and The Silver Surfer's immediate departure. The Goddess, a being made of all the good expelled by Adam Warlock when he held the Infinity Gauntlet, appeared and stole the Magus' 5 Cosmic Cubes at the end of the Infinity War. She continued to collect 30 Cosmic Cubes to form a Cosmic Egg in order to instantly indoctrinate every religious or spiritual hero in the 616 Marvel Universe and bring them to her Paradise Omega.

The Goddess perceives Thanos as her greatest threat and sends an immediate attack but he is saved by Adam Warlock. The two are confronted by Mephisto who offers information on the new threat in exchange for a single Cosmic Cube. Thanos agrees and takes responsibility for the deal with the devil.

Thanos teams the remaining earth heroes and with Silver Surfer who freed himself of The Goddess' control. Silver Surfer breaks through the barrier to Paradise Omega where a holy war breaks out among the two groups of heroes. The indoctrinated defend the Goddess as she prepares for "rapture" to rid the universe of all evil.

Thanos combines his mental powers with that of Professor X and attacks The Goddess with an illusion of her desires right before she engaged the Cosmic Egg. This projected her intentions of using the will of all her followers to override the Cosmic Egg's failsafes in order to rid the universe of all sentient life as the only way to fully expel evil. This breaks her followers faith and ruins her plans just as Thanos, Professor X and Adam Warlock attack her on the spiritual plane where the Cosmic Egg can't protect her. Adam Warlock steals her soul back into his Soul Gem to be reunited with The Magus.

Thanos uses the Cosmic Egg to undo the Goddess' damage and send Earth's heroes home, then orders the Egg to destroy itself. Thanos delivers a Cosmic Cube to Mephisto who brags about mortals not knowing their true power before realizing it has been completely drained of its energies.

They arrive and are forced to defeat Heimdall. Odin sends all of Asgard to attack thinking Thanos has taken Thor captive. Odin enters the battle himself and Thanos jumps at the opportunity to test his power one-on-one. Thanos and Odin battle on even ground in an enormous display of cosmic power. Thanos muses that they both manage their massive power reserves by storing them in personal pocket dimensions. Odin appears to gain the upper hand but Thanos still stands and refuses to back down. Sif and Beta Ray Bill stop the fight to explain the situation to Odin.

Odin is unable to cure Thor and is about to execute him when Dr. Strange explains that he will need to cut the madness out with the precision of a scalpel. Argus, a god from the Ultraverse, summons Thor to his universe to assist in a battle. When he sends Thor home he is followed by the energy vampire Rune. Secretly, Loki also passed over to the Ultraverse.

When Rune arrives to the 616 Marvel Universe he immediately detects the Infinity Gems and steals them from the Infinity Watch. The Living Tribunal tasks The Silver Surfer with retrieving them, but in battle with Rune the Infinity Gems are lost in a portal back to his home reality.

Loki learns that the Infinity Gems have arrived to the Ultraverse and sets on a journey to collect them from the various "Ultras". Meanwhile, The Black Knight arrives alone after following Sersi through a portal to where she wouldn't be able to harm anyone with her corrupted powers. Somehow they ended up in the Ultraverse and were split up. The Black Knight is found by and later teams up with The Ultraforce.

Loki collects all of the Infinity Gems and forms an Infinity Sword, while Sersi is contacted by a mysterious voice guiding her on a secret mission. The Grandmaster learns of the events of the Ultraverse and challenges Loki to a Contest of Champions. If Loki wins he will get hidden knowledge of a secret 7th Infinity Gem and if the Grandmaster wins he gets his Mind Gem back. Loki agrees and a contest between the heroes of two universes begins.

The Grandmaster wins the contest but the victory is cut short when Sersi approaches Loki and combines with his Infinity Sword to become Nemesis, the original cosmic being who was split into the Infinity Gems. The voice guiding Sersi was the secret 7th Infinity Gem, the Ego Gem. In a fit of rage Nemeis destroys both universes to combine them into a single new universe.

In this new universe The Black Knight finds a variant of the Ebony Blade. Nemesis has lost her creativity and her mind is fractured after being split apart for an eternity. The new universe is only a sketch that quickly collapses as the heroes from the three universes unite to attack Nemesis. The Black Knight with his new Ebony Blade are able to split Nemesis' Infinity Crown down the Ego Gem, breaking the Gems apart again.
